Toyota and Subaru have announced for April 5, 2021 the presentation of a new jointly developed model: this should be the new generation of Toyota GT86.

The two Japanese manufacturers have published a photo-teaser of this event, on which we find only the two logos of their brands, as well as the date of April 5, 2021. The second generation of the Subaru BRZ having been recently unveiled, it would not be surprising to see its declination signed Toyota land on this occasion, with a second generation of the GT86.

Toyota GR86: a version signed by Gazoo Racing

Toyota has already announced that the president of its Gazoo Racing division, Koji Sato, will be present at this event. Although the information has not yet been officially confirmed, the second generation of the Toyota GT86 could be renamed on this occasion. GR 86, in order to complete the sports range in which we already find the GR Supra as well as the GR Yaris.

Its mechanics should unsurprisingly be shared with the new Subaru BRZ: an atmospheric four-cylinder with 2.4 liters of displacement, developing 231 horsepower and 249 Nm of torque sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual, or an optional six-speed automatic. In comparison with the first generation, the gain is 31 horsepower and 44 Nm of additional torque.

The Toyota badged version should have some stylistic features to differentiate itself from the BRZ, but most of the new features already announced by Subaru will be there. The Subaru BRZ is expected to be marketed atfall 2021, while the Toyota GR 86 is expected to follow beginning of the year 2022.
