Under test in 10 French departments, the impound reform will be rolled out gradually throughout France, from this month of February 2021: let’s take stock of its novelties.
Since November 17, 2020, new rules concerning car impoundments are in force, with the aim of simplify the procedures entry, exit and management of impounded vehicles.
A new description of the condition of the vehicle
In practice, each vehicle impounded will now be accompanied by a new description sheet more detailed, which is an inventory during its removal, with two supporting drawings of the vehicle: this sheet will be established by the police, in the presence if possible of the driver or the owner. In addition, the vehicle will no longer be subject to an automobile expertise after four days of custody.
Regarding vehicles in poor condition impounded, they will be considered abandoned if their market value is considered insufficient (it should previously be less than € 765), or after a period of 10 days + 1 working day. For vehicles in working order, the deadline is 15 days.
If the owner does not pick up his vehicle on time, he can still do so as long as it has not been put up for auction by the Estate Department, subject to payment of the selling costs ( 100 € for a car and 50 € for a two-wheeler).
Gradual generalization to the whole of France by April 2021
Initially in test in ten departments (Finistère, Indre-et-Loire, Nord, Pas-de-Calais, Seine-et-Marne, Vienne, Haute-Vienne, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne, Val-d’Oise) since 17 November 2020, this reform of the pounds is extended since 1er February 2021 to the following departments: Aisne, Bouches-du-Rhône, Charente, Charente-Maritime, Côtes-d’Armor, Eure, Eure-et-Loir, Gironde, Landes, Oise, Seine-Maritime, Yvelines, Somme, Var, Yonne, Essonne, Hauts-de-Seine.
By April 2021, all of France will be concerned, with a gradual deployment in two complementary stages, which will take place on 1er March and 1er April 2021. An online platform, called “SI Fourrière”, will also be set up in order to dematerialize administrative procedures related to the impoundment of a vehicle and its exit.
