The adventurer will receive the famous compressor V8 from the Jaguar Land Rover group.
Before turning the page on thermal, Jaguar Land Rover has obviously decided to mark the occasion! The Defender, Land Rover’s endless adventurer, renewed in 2019, will indeed receive a good old V8, capable of 525 hp.
It is therefore the return of the Defender V8, a version that has always been acclaimed in the long history of the 4×4. The V8 in question is well known, since it is the 5.0 L compressor engine that can be found everywhere when it comes to beefing up a car from the Jaguar or Land Rover ranges: under the hoods of the F-Type or Range Rover, for example. It develops in this configuration the trifle of 525 hp.
Impressive performances, prices too …
What offer the Defender more than respectable performance: the 0 to 100 km / h is shipped in about 5 seconds, for a maximum speed of 240 km / h. But this V8 will also propel the prices of the 4×4 towards the stratosphere: if Land Rover does not specify if it will be sold in France, the price is displayed at £ 98.505 in the UK for the 90 (three-door) version, i.e. a little over 110,000 €. This is more than double the entry-level version, the 200 hp Defender 90 diesel, displayed in France from € 51,600. And that’s without counting the € 30,000 penalty related to the V8! Perhaps this is the reason why Land Rover has not (yet?) Announced it in France.
Anyway, Land Rover takes the opportunity to slightly revise the range of its Defender, with a new “XS Edition” finish, which replaces the First Edition. New customization options are also available, as well asa larger central screen of 11.4 “(which replaces the current one of 10”).
