After a crazy Qatar Grand Prix, Johann Zarco leads the MotoGP World Championship while Fabio Quartararo has scored an epic victory.
Last year, French rider Fabio Quartararo missed out on the MotoGP World Championship title due to a completely missed end to the season. But beware, he seems determined to take his revenge in this 2021 season. After a moderately successful first round of the season, Fabio pulled off a superb show of force at the Doha Grand Prix on the Losail circuit.
Starting from fifth position, he made a breathtaking comeback after a difficult start to the race and won the race after ten laps of total domination. And a Frenchman can hide another: starting from second place on the grid, Johann Zarco finished second after a sparkling end of the race. Already second last weekend on the same circuit, he took the opportunity to take the lead in the drivers’ championship for the very first time in his career.
French double in the championship
With 40 points, Johann Zarco has a 4-point lead in the championship over Fabio Quartararo, himself tied on points with Spaniard Maverick Vinales. Joan Mir, the 2020 champion, owns 22 after going through a tough race.
