After some major modifications, this Corvette C8 became the fastest Corvette in the world in the 400-meter standing start exercise. She had to change her tires, her fuel and add two turbos to her, but she did!
The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray C8 has resources. Until the arrival of even wilder versions of the C8, the 6.2-liter V8 of the classic model produces up to 495 horsepower. And it already makes the Corvette one of the fastest sports cars, having previously shot down the quarter mile (400 meters standing start) in under 11 seconds. You can thank its engine placed in the rear: a great novelty that made purists cry but which satisfied performance aficionados.
But what happens when you add two turbos to the Corvette’s V8 with other modifications like Mickey Thompson tires? Well there are a lot of changes. The men at YouTube channel EmileHartford aimed to break the existing Corvette C8 quarter-mile record of 9.95 seconds at the Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, California.
If you don’t want to waste too much time watching all the explanations, scroll down to the video for up to 10 minutes and you’ll get right to where the big moment happens. With special Forgeline wheels and a nearly empty gas tank, things looked promising for “Phoenix”, as this C8 is called. But at the start, the team still recorded times around 10 seconds. It was not enough!
As good as a 765LT?
It took a few races and switching to methanol racing fuel before this 1,000-horsepower Corvette finally broke the record, breaking down the quarter-mile in 9.9 seconds. That hasn’t stopped Emelia Hartford from wanting more. She had a better pass in 9.41 seconds.
It is now the fastest Corvette C8 in the world. Yes, it took several upgrades for the coupe to get there, but what a feat. To put that time into perspective, the McLaren 765LT recently set a new production car quarter mile record with its stock tires at 9.372 seconds.
