Mercedes’ future utility will use the same chassis as the Renault Kangoo.
What did the older-generation Mercedes Citan and Renault Kangoo have in common? Lots of technical elements. And for good reason, the small van / minivan of the brand with the star was nothing other than a rebadged Renault Kangoo.
And despite the end of the collaboration between Mercedes and Renault on small cars, the two brands will continue to collaborate in the small utility segment. This is why the future Mercedes Citan will continue to share a very large number of technical components with the Renault Kangoo. The German manufacturer has also just unveiled the first images of its eCitan prototype, which will have a 100% electric engine.
Better than the Kangoo?
We can bet that Mercedes should also offer versions of this Citan equipped with petrol and / or diesel fuel engines. At Renault, the Kangoo will do the opposite and will be available in a 100% electric version like its German cousin. The Mercedes France communicators also provide us with details about the technical development of the future Mercedes Citan:
“The next Citan will be launched in the second half of the year and will go further than the previous version. Daimler has indeed been working with Renault since the start of the development of the two new MPVs, and therefore much earlier than in the case of the first Citan. There will be many specific Mercedes features on this platform, which is indeed common but on which the Mercedes-Benz engineers were able to provide all their input from the start of the project in terms of comfort, handling, design, etc. “
