Sébastien Ogier broke Sébastien Loeb’s record for victories in the legendary Monte-Carlo rally. He now has 8 successes on Monegasque soil.
The season is off to a good start for Sébastien Ogier and his co-driver Julien Ingrassia! The pair dominated Rallye Monte Carlo, finishing the event with more than 30 seconds ahead on the second Toyota Yaris, driven by Elfyn Evans. The Frenchman also offered himself the bonus points of the Power Stage.
After a difficult start to the rally, complicated by brake problems, Ogier passed the second and dominated the rest of the event, to sign his 50th WRC victory, the eighth on the most legendary of rallies. It is a new record, the precedent being set at 7 by Sébastien Loeb. But Ogier is still far from the record for the total number of victories for the Alsatian, set at 79. A bar that he will never reach since he decided to end his career after the 2021 season.
Disaster for Hyundai and Tanak
Behind it is the rout for Hyundai. Belgian Thierry Neuville saves the furniture and finishes on the podium, but more than a minute from Ogier. Ott Tänak, for his part, was forced to abandon after special 10, having no spare tire to repair a puncture. Worse, the Estonian receives more than one suspension of a rally suspended for driving on a connecting road with only three wheels.
See you in a month for Rally Finland, February 26-28.
