The family of the new Seat Leon has a new member. After the petrol (TSI), diesel (TDI), mild hybrid (ETSI), and plug-in hybrid (e-HYBRID) versions, the Spanish manufacturer offers its compact sedan a variation running … on natural gas (CNG). Orders for the Leon 1.5L TGI of 130 hp are indeed open!
Up to 440 km of range on natural gas
This model is equipped with a 1.5L TGI four-cylinder engine which delivers a power of 130 hp and a torque of 200 Nm. Above all, it has three compressed natural gas tanks with a total net capacity of 17.3 kg. What gives it a gas range of up to 440 km.
When these “CNG tanks are exhausted, the powertrain can automatically switch to the gas tank to easily reach the nearest gas station. The fuel is stored in a secondary 9-liter tank.”, Says Seat.
The Leon TGI has a top speed of 203 km / h, consumption between 3.9 kg and 4.3 kg of natural gas per 100 km, and CO2 emissions between 107 and 118 g / km (WLTP cycle ).
“These are reduced by around 25% with a CNG vehicle compared to an equivalent gasoline vehicle.”, Says the Spanish manufacturer. Before adding: “In addition to the ecological and fiscal advantages, TGI technology offers an exceptionally low cost per kilometer, up to 50% less than an equivalent petrol model, and 30% less than a diesel model.”
