New Mercedes S-Class (2020): 5 things to know about the star's flagship

Our journalist Mélina Priam was indeed able to take the wheel of the luxury sedan. on the roads of Cassis, in the Bouches-du-Rhône (13).

Obviously our tester was impressed by the comfort and luxury that offers – as always – the flagship of the brand to the star, but above all it was amazed by its new and countless technological innovations.

“Of course, it is very, very pleasant to drive, its comfort is once again impressive, but what really impresses is its technological content and the driving aids available to it,” thus immediately lets our expert loose.

Mercedes technology showcase

If this “high tech” side is traditionally one of the hallmarks of the S-Class, this seventh generation is particularly strong in this area by notably inaugurating front airbags for rear passengers, a second generation MBUX system, a 4D audio system which transmits bass vibrations through the seats or an augmented reality head-up display for guidance. Note also the presence of new air suspensions, rear steering wheels and a level 2 semi-autonomous driving system.

Diesel before plug-in hybrid

On the other hand, this S-Class is more conservative on the engine side with only two diesel units available at launch on the French market. One of 286 hp for the S 350 d and the other of 330 hp for the S 400 d. Both are fitted with a 9G-Tronic automatic transmission. In the course of the year, however, the range will be supplemented by a plug-in hybrid version which will display 100 km of electric autonomy.

Car price: € 100,600 !
