Introduced in 2017, the Mercedes-AMG Project One is about to be delivered to customers. But before that, it was Lewis Hamilton, F1 driver for the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team, who approached her. And guess what … he only says good things about it!
The debut of the Mercedes-AMG Project One in September 2017 already seems far away. Although development of F1’s powered hypercar has experienced some delays in recent months, deliveries to customers will begin later this year. Before that, Lewis Hamilton, seven-time Formula 1 world champion, recently had the chance to get up close and personal with him and give you his feelings. While it is not clear how much Hamilton was involved in the development of the car, he seems impressed with what his employer created.
We must admit that we expected him to be part of the promotion of this hypercar and to say good things about it, but he does his job well and makes us dangle a car really out of the ordinary.
An interesting thing about this video is that Hamilton talks about the car as “Project One”. That was its name when the concept was first unveiled, but the German automaker quickly removed the word “Project” from its name, simply designating it as the “One”. We still don’t know what the production model will be called.
The best Mercedes?
Whatever its name, we have a great idea of how the hybrid hypercar performs. Thanks to a turbocharged V6 engine with just 1.6 liters of displacement, taken from a Mercedes-AMG Formula 1 car, as well as four electric motors, the hypercar produces more than 1,000 horsepower and will reach more than 350 km / h at top speed. Even more impressive, its acceleration: thanks to its immense power, its torque and its all-wheel drive, it should be one of the fastest cars in the world.
Without surprise, Mercedes had to fundamentally modify the V6 for road use, notably by reducing its red line to “only” 11,000 rpm. Nonetheless, the AMG Project One is becoming the closest thing to a Formula 1 car for the road and that’s quite a feat.
