Jeep Wrangler, Mercedes G-Class and Land Rover Defender, which is faster? 4

The CarWow YouTube channel pitted the legendary Jeep Wrangler, Mercedes G-Class and Land Rover Defender old and new generation adventurers against each other in a drag-race. Far from mud and steep paths!

Make a drag-race with 4x4s, that’s a rather original idea! Especially when the backpackers in question are the most legendary franchisers like the latest generations of Jeep Wrangler, Mercedes G-Class and Land Rover Defender, with the bonus of a former “Def” also in the game.

The English of CarWow therefore wanted to get the 4 all-terrain vehicles out of the mud in order to allow them to show us their acceleration skills over a famous quarter mile.

For this standing start, they chose the Wrangler 4-cylinder 2.0 turbo petrol with 272 hp (and 400 Nm of torque), the new Defender 4-cylinder turbo Diesel 2.0 with 240 hp (430 Nm), its ancestor the classic Defender also powered by a 4-cylinder turbo Diesel with 2.2 liters of displacement and a power of 122 hp and 360 Nm of torque, the only one with a manual gearbox. Finally, the last competitor is the Mercedes Classe G350 with its inline 6-cylinder turbo Diesel 2.0 of 286 hp and 600 Nm of torque.

Pure acceleration and braking

Logically, the standing start saw a very close duel between the two most powerful competitors, the Wrangler and the G-Class. To such an extent that the two 4x4s completed the 402 meters of the quarter-mile in 15 seconds. Judging from the video, however, it looks like the German’s bumper crosses the finish line first. The new Defender arrives right after, far ahead of its grandfather and its 20 second time to go the distance.

Finally, the big backpackers were also subjected to a braking test. This time, the Defender wins, stopping the fastest. The Wrangler brings up the rear, logically handicapped by studded tires. All they need to do is repeat the experience on a terrain that would be more favorable to them, the track!
