The Spanish manufacturer has confirmed the arrival of its very first all-electric model, the Cupra Born, in the second half of 2021.
Unveiled last year with the Cupra El Born concept car, itself derived from the Seat El Born concept, the production version referred to as Cupra Born will indeed be produced, with a style very close to the concept car. This is all first 100% electric model from the Spanish sports firm, which arrives three years after its emancipation from Seat, and whose mission will be to combine electrification and performance:
“The Cupra Born shares all the genes of the brand. We have taken the original concept to the next level by creating a new sporty and modern design and rethinking the technological content. The Cupra Born is proof that performance and electrification go hand in hand ” announces Wayne Griffiths, CEO of Cupra.
Cupra Born (2021): up to 500 km of autonomy
The detailed characteristics of this new model, derived from the Volkswagen ID.3, have not yet been revealed, but Cupra is already announcing a range of 500 km with a single charge, thanks to a battery of 77 kWh (82 kWh gross). A fast charging station will allow you to recover 260 km of range in 30 minutes.
Based on the MEB platform of the Volkswagen group, the Cupra Born is equipped with a DCC Sport piloted suspension (Dynamic Chassis Control Sport), and swallow it 0 to 50 km / h in just 2.9 seconds. According to rumors, its engine would offer a maximum power of 315 horsepower, thanks to two electric motors placed at the front and at the rear.
On board, sport bucket seats, a steering wheel with a driving mode selector, as well as recycled materials will be waiting for you, not to mention a head-up display with augmented reality. Produced in Zwickau, Germany, the Cupra Born will be marketed in the second half of 2021, at prices to be announced later.
