The Frenchman adds his name to a now long list of F1 drivers who have been sick with the virus.
The Covid has wreaked havoc among F1 drivers: Pérez, Stroll, Hamilton, Norris, Leclerc, and now Pierre Gasly have all been affected by the virus, i.e. almost a third of the grid.
Lando Norris, Charles Leclerc and Pierre Gasly all contracted it during this winter break, after taking advantage of more flexible rules offered to pilots during the off-season. Seen in Dubai two weeks ago, Pierre Gasly has now returned home and is going to isolate himself.
Complicated preparation, season under pressure
But the closer to the start of the season, the more the risk of being ill is to penalize the drivers. At the beginning of February, physical preparation is in full swing, as the pilots begin to get closer to their teams. for the first tests, which will be held in a month.
A interrupted physical preparation could have serious consequences for this season which promises to be extremely long, with a record schedule of 23 races. Pierre Gasly specified that he would continue his preparation at home, in isolation, but it will very likely be less effective. And that’s without counting on the effects of the virus, which can be very marked even in a young athlete like Gasly.
Enough to make pilots, teams, and promoters nervous before the start of a season under high tension.
