The ecotax that does not say its name? A “contribution” heavy goods vehicles could emerge in certain regions of France, a measure much criticized by the opposition.
In 2014, it had already caused a lot of ink to flow: the eco-tax for trucks had finally been abandoned, in the face of the sling of the road and red caps in Brittany. But this Sunday, March 14, 2021, the deputies of the committee in charge of the Climate and Resilience law gave their approval for a new “contribution” heavy goods vehicles, which can be implemented by regions that wish.
Heavy-duty contribution: new upheavals in sight
Article 32 of Climate and resilience bill plans to allow volunteer regions ” with a public road domain “, To set up a” specific contribution based on road freight transport “. According to the elected representatives of the opposition, this new law marks the return of the ecotax, but according to Jean-Baptiste Djebbari, the Minister Delegate in charge of Transport, this new ecotax is ” a demand from certain regions today, in a logic of differentiation “.
If the measure is not unanimous, it is eagerly awaited in the Grand Est region and more precisely in Alsace, in order to fight against the circulation of German heavy goods vehicles, passing through the region of Strasbourg in order to escape a tax. similar across the Rhine. Nevertheless, the elected officials of Lorraine already fear a new transfer of traffic to their regional roads.
As for Brittany, the president of the region Loïg Chesnais-Girard, has already announced on Twitter that this eco-tax will not be implemented in his region, unsurprisingly.
