With its naturally aspirated 6-cylinder 510 hp, the new Porsche 911 GT3 will undoubtedly be the favorite 911 of purists. The latter will also be able to opt for the manual gearbox instead of the PDK. A mix that promises to be very balanced.
At Porsche, only a few models still manage to survive turbocharging, electrification or downsizing. This is the case of the new Porsche 911 GT3 (992) and its atmospheric 510 horsepower flat-6, the favorite model of purists before the arrival of its ultimate evolution GT3 RS.
Unlike its previous generation only offered in PDK at launch, the GT3 992 is already available with two gearboxes: the PDK double-clutch and the good old manual gearbox lever. Enough to reopen the debate between fans of the PDK supersonic and heel-toe purists.
40% of mechanical boxes
According to Porsche GT division boss Andreas Preuninger, at least 40% of the GT3 will sell in manual gearboxes. For Motorsport Head of Division Frank-Steffen Walliser, the mix will be even more balanced.
“We lost several bottles of wine betting on the percentage of manual boxes when we reintroduced the option on the previous generation. We were surprised by its level”, Walliser told our colleagues at Autocar.
No figure was given but the share had to be high enough to justify the return of the GT3 to a manual gearbox. A logical decision for a purist vehicle!
