An AMG red livery for Mercedes Safety-cars and Medical-cars in Formula 1 4

Mercedes-AMG presented the new colors for its safety car, the AMG GT R and its medical car, a C63 S Estate for the 2021 FIA Formula 1 World Championship.

Both cars feature new red paint, matching Affalterbach’s signature brand color. They also bear the name of Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team partner CrowdStrike. This year, the Mercedes-AMG GT R will share its functions with the new safety car: an Aston Martin Vantage which will be on the track when the season opens on March 28 at the Bahrain Grand Prix. The GT R will make its debut on April 18, in Round 2 of the F1 World Championship at Imola, with Bernd Maylander, AMG brand ambassador, Driving Academy instructor and Safety-car driver since 1999.

“For all these years, my safety cars have never let me down. This exemplary reliability is also a fundamental safety factor. The high performance on the race track thrills me again and again. I am delighted to continue driving the FIA Safety Car and this season it will be even more interesting, not just because of the new color ”said Maylander, who has driven FIA F1 safety cars for more than 20 years.

AMG and Aston Martin, even more links

The GT R, which features the AMG “Track” package with rollover protection and ceramic brakes, has not undergone any mechanical changes. So the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 still develops 585 horsepower, allowing it to knock down the 0 to 100 km / h in 3.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 318 km / h.

With Alan van der Merwe at the wheel of the medical car, a C63 S Estate station wagon will transport medics to the scene of an accident as quickly as possible. It retains the original engine, the same block developing 510 horsepower this time, and has optional ceramic brakes and four individual racing seats inside, with four-point safety harness.

In addition to the carbon fiber roof light bar, both cars have two additional screens inside, one that broadcasts the race and a second that shows the current position of the riders on the track. This makes us anxious for the championship to resume!
