The Californian manufacturer Alpha Motors unveils its Jax, a funny electric backpacker that could suggest a modern reinterpretation of the Matra Rancho.
Unveiled in 1977, the Matra Rancho is today considered one of the first SUVs in history. An original model, with the adventurous spirit that may have inspired the new Alpha Jax.
Based on the Ace electric coupe presented last December, this CUV (Crossover utility vehicle) is a sort of raised 4-door coupe with all-terrain attributes. With a length of 4.56 meters, the Jax is dressed in fender flares accommodating large tires, tubular bumpers as well as a roof rack with projectors.
This Californian version of the Matra Rancho can accommodate 4 people in its sleek interior characterized by a large touchscreen tablet. The cargo volume is also impressive with a cargo capacity of 1,770 liters.
Two versions
The small American manufacturer intends to offer its Jax in two different versions: traction with a single engine and another with a more sophisticated 4-wheel drive system. The latter claims a 0 to 100 km / h in just over 6.5 seconds and a range of 400 kilometers. Not to mention a maximum towed load of 839 kg.
Good surprise price question since the Alpha Jax is offered from $ 38,000 in traction version and without options. But we will have to wait a bit before seeing it rolling since the first deliveries are scheduled for 2023.
