One of the big announcements of the Renaulution event was the creation of a Business Unit between Dacia and Lada. Synergies at platform and bodywork levels will allow Lada to launch a new generation of Niva in 2024.
Launched in 1977, the Lada Niva has not been marketed in France since 2017 due to pollution and safety standards that have become far too severe for the rustic Soviet 4×4. But he nevertheless continues his little way in Russia.
If he died in France, we learned this morning during the Renaulution event that the Renault group intends to resuscitate the dinosaur built by its Russian subsidiary Avtovaz, thanks to synergies with Dacia, in particular at the level of common platforms.
One platform instead of four
The new Niva should therefore – like the Dacia Bigster – be based on the CMF-B platform of the current Renault Clio 5 and Dacia Sandero in particular. The goal will be to produce more than one million vehicles per year based on this platform.
Obviously, these synergies will make it possible to achieve big economies of scale. In fact, by working hand in hand, the group’s brands will reduce the number of platforms. In this case, a CMF-B instead of four!
Lada also plans to produce a new C segment SUV by 2025. It remains to be seen whether we will see it in France, as the brand’s positioning will be close to that of Dacia.
