It’ll smell like burnt gum! German tuner Opus Automotive promises to deliver up to 1,111 hp for the Mercedes AMG GT Black Series. That’s 391 hp more than the factory model.
With its 720 hp 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, the Mercedes AMG GT Black Series is the most ultimate version of the AMG GT range. Last year, it already set a new record on the Nürburgring north loop in the “production model” category with a time of 6: 43.616!
But that did not prevent the German tuner Opus Automotive from leaning under its hood, in order to grab a few extra horses. Dubbed the Opus Binary Edition, this AMG GT Black Series is offered in two versions: 1001 hp and 1111 hp. In its most extreme configuration, it thus develops 391 hp more than the factory model, but also 57 hp more than the future Mercedes AMG One hypercar!
More powerful than a Bugatti Veyron
Opus Automotive is therefore the first tuner to deal with the case of the Mercedes AMG GT Black Series. To achieve this result, the preparer has grafted new turbos and reinforced many components, such as the gearbox, pistons, connecting rods, cylinder heads… The exhaust system and the rims are also specific.
So that all this power can be digested by the rear wheels alone (and spare the mechanics), the torque is restricted in the first reports. Performance has yet to be revealed, but it is expected to be particularly high. The 720 hp production model already achieves 0 to 100 km / h in 3.2 seconds.
The marketing of the two versions of the AMG GT Black Series Opus Binary Edition is scheduled for the month of June, once it has carried out some additional tests on the dyno as well as on the Nordschleife. But by then, 825 and 920 hp performance kits will be available for sale from mid-April. For the most reasonable customers …
